Jimmy Butler has remained adamant on leaving the Miami Heat through trade prior to the Feb. 6 trade deadline, but Miami has been holding onto the six-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA selection while they continue to field offers.
Luckily for Butler, a recent transaction to acquire first-round draft capital from the Utah Jazz and new reports have indicated that the Phoenix Suns are putting the pieces in place to offer a deal that the Heat simply cannot refuse.
With Butler standing as the trade market’s biggest domino that has yet to fall, the rest of the league has been waiting on bated breath for a deal to finally be completed.
“As it relates to a Jimmy Butler trade update, the entire NBA is waiting so others moves can follow,” shared Forbes’ Evan Sidery via Twitter/X on Saturday afternoon.
“The Suns continue to be aggressive pursuing Butler, and they’re willing to include all three first-round picks acquired from the Jazz to help satisfy all teams becoming involved.”
Butler’s ultimate departure from Miami will be a league-altering event not just for the impact that he’ll bring to his next team, but because it will lead to the rest of the market returning to normal operations.
Butler’s situation is extremely unique, as a falling out between a star player and his organization does not usually become as public as this recent spat between Butler and Heat team president Pat Riley has.
The 35-year-old has now been suspended twice for a total of nine games by the organization for what they have deemed to be, “conduct detrimental to the team,” but that hasn’t stopped prospective franchises like Phoenix from trying to acquire the star for a hopeful championship push.
Phoenix has been doing all they can to make an offer for Butler more enticing despite their second tax apron status.
By acquiring three more first-round picks from the Jazz, a deal may not be too far from being agreed upon by both parties.
