SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – AMIKids Caddo & Workforce is hosting a career day with Visit Shreveport-Bossier!
“Career Day” is a chance for 7th and 8th graders at AMIKids Caddo & Workforce to explore career paths that don’t require a college degree.
The event allows students to speak with leaders in local industries and see potential career opportunities in skilled trades.
“These kids are going to have readily prepared questions to ask these individuals and how these guys and gals are going to earn a ‘rising star’… they have to have eye contact, they have to make sure that their voices carry and they’re going to have a good time with the partners and the teachers,” said Karen Barnes with Visit Shreveport-Bossier.
During the event, six “rising star” students were awarded with Chromebooks for their curiosity and asking insightful questions.
Principal & Executive Director Dr. Shonda Ford says events like these are beneficial to everyone in our community.
“We’re giving our students the opportunity to see that there’s a bigger picture, there’s a bigger world out there. In order to make your community better, in order to stop the cycle of socialization with students doing things that probably they shouldn’t, they have the opportunity to see there’s a bigger picture to life now,” she said.
