November 9, 2024-Emporia State disc golf had the low scores in both the male and female competition during the singles competition at the Mid-American Regional Championship presented by Dynamic Discs on Saturday.
Atlanta Krueger led a 1-2-3 sweep in the women’s competition. She shot +5 to beat teammate Madeline Joiner five three strokes. Rebekah Thompson rounded out the top three finishers for Emporia State with a +10 at the Peter Pan Park Optimist Disc Golf Course.
The Emporia State women have three of the top four teams heading into the team competition. The ESU Gold team of Krueger and Joiner are +5 to hold an 11 stroke lead over the Black team of Maya Ringgold and Thompson. Hesston is in third at +18 with the ESU White Team in fourth at 23 over heading into the final round on Sunday.
The Emporia State men had five of the top six scorers at the Jones Park West Course. Isaiah Esquivel shot -10 to match the top ranked collegiate player Kolton Webb of Oklahoma Christian. Hornets took up the next four spots. Micah Tatro was third at -7 while Justin Farrell and TJ Reel each shot six under. Grant Yoder rounded out the Hornets in the top six with a -4 on the day.
The singles competition put the Emporia State Gold men’s team of Farrell, Reel, Tatro and Cade Kohlmeier in first place by three strokes over Oklahoma Christian heading into the final round on Sunday. The foursome of Isaiah Esquivel, Caden Stucky, Yoder and Joshua Sterner of the Emporia State Black team is in third place at 14 under, one stroke behind Oklahoma Christian.
Action will continue on Sunday starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Peter Pan and Jones Park courses.
