SIMSBURY, Conn. (WFSB) – Significant damage was reported throughout Simsbury and at the Simsbury Airport.
The storm came in very quickly.
Two planes were completely totaled.
The wind was so severe that the plane lifted off into the air and traveled 300 feet.
Fortunately, nobody was injured.
Two hangers had their tops ripped off as well.
“It happened in a matter of moments. Everyone was kind of looking outside, it was sunny one moment and they saw all of the dust coming from the material handling next door blowing through and then they could see the column of rain and wind coming through and then it was zero visibility. In a matter 10-15 seconds it went from sunny to chaos,” said Brad Griswold, Airport Manager, Simsbury Airport.
About a dozen trees in the immediate vicinity have been destroyed.
3,000 people in town are without power.
