Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey share different points of view when predicting which men will win the Grand Slams in 2025.
There is just over one week remaining until the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, commences in Melbourne.
The players are fresh and eager to begin their journeys to the title but as they know all too well, only one man can emerge victorious.
Fans members of the media love to predict who will win each major and two former players Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey gave it their best shot.
The tennis world is keen to see which players will succeed in the Grand Slams, the four biggest and most prestigious tournaments in the game.
They were dominated by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in 2024, and Johnson believes the pair will claim more majors in 2025.
However his former doubles partner Querrey shared another prediction as he thinks there will be a new Grand Slam champion crown this year.
Johnson told the Nothing Major Podcast: My 2025 major winners. For the Australian Open I have Sacha Zverev getting it done. At the French Open I have Jannik Sinner.
“Wimbledon I have Carlos Alcaraz and the US Open I have a 50/50 here. My heart tells me Fritz, but my head is telling me Carlos gets it done.”
Querrey replied: “I am going to say someone outside the top eight is going to win a slam next year. I don’t have a name. But I am taking the field. I’m taking nine to 1000.”
2024 began with Novak Djokovic holding three Grand Slams and searching for his 25th major. But to the shock of many, he would end 2024 without winning a Grand Slam for the first time since 2017.
The Serbian commenced the year with his first loss at the Australian Open since 2018, to Sinner, who went on to win the title.
The French Open was won by Alcaraz, and winning back-to-back five set matches against Sinner and Alexander Zverev to lift the trophy.
The Spaniard successfully retained his Wimbledon title by once again defeating Djokovic in the final, this time in straight sets.
The final major of 2024 at the US Open, was claimed by Sinner, who calmly progressed through the field and eased to a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 win against home favourite Taylor Fritz in the championship match.
