Automaker Stellantis plans to produce a new midsize pickup truck in Belvidere and return about 1,500 union jobs to the long-idled Illinois plant, according to an email.
The email obtained by the Rockford Register Star Wednesday states the company’s chairman, John Elkann, met with President Donald Trump to discuss the company’s plans to rebuild.
Specific actions detailed in the email include:
“These actions are part of our commitment to invest in our U.S. operations to grow our auto production and manufacturing here,” the email states. “We have shared with the UAW all these actions and our desire to work together to strengthen our great company.”
