Flash Steelworks is expanding its operations in St. Clair County, promising to bring 55 new jobs to the area.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the expansion Thursday, stating the expansion will invest $8.8 million in the area. The release also announced an investment in Emmet County by Aster Brands.
“Since taking office, I’ve been committed to making sure that anyone can make it in Michigan,” Whitmer said in the statement. “That’s why I’ll work with anyone to keep helping companies invest and grow right here in Michigan.”
The Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and Michigan Business Development Program helped facilitate the expansion. The MBDP provided a $750,000 grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund.
“The Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County is proud to have been a part of bringing Flash Steelworks to Ira Township. The company’s advanced process of flash heating and cooling creates a high value and weldable steel that has successfully earned the business several government contracts,” said Kristy Jones, director of business and community development at the Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County. “The EDA welcomes Flash Steelworks to St. Clair County and is thankful for the new investment and skilled job opportunities it brings to the region.”
Flash Steelworks is a steel manufacturer and research and development firm founded in 2006. The company’s products appear in armor, cars, bridges, ships, seawalls and other items. The company is announcing their expansion plans to install a Flash Armor Production line to support new contracts and begin production of the world’s highest performing armor plate, as tested by the U.S. Army.
The average wage of the new jobs will be $32.82.
“We are excited to continue working with the MEDC to advance Flash Technology research and full-scale production in St Clair County,” Gary Cole, founder and CTO of Flash Steelworks said in a statement. “While creating good paying skilled jobs, Flash Steel will better protect those in harm’s way, be it in an automobile or armored carrier.”
