PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) – It’s a common New Year’s resolution, getting into shape, and this year is no different. Some gyms in Presque Isle are seeing an increase in gym memberships. News Source 8 reporter Megan Waceken spoke with gym officials to find out what they have seen so far and find out some tips to keeping this particular resolution.
With the new year comes a new flow of memberships to local gyms.
“Now that the holidays are over people are a bit more aware of how their bodies are feeling and what they are doing for themselves as the new year starts.” says Katie Escobar, Fitness Director at Omni Fitness.
Whether folks are looking to run on a treadmill or work with a personal trainer, they’re fitness goals are taking them to their local gym.
“We’ve seen an increase in our regular membership here at Omni but also our CrossFit memberships have gone up as well” says Escobar.
“So the memberships — an 8 percent increase this year. It was actually higher than last year. And an increase in personal training” says Steve Plummer, Owner of Aroostook County Fitness.
Fitness directors say folks who want fitness goals to be their resolution this year just need to get started.
“So even if it’s just something small every single day it is so much easier to keep a habit and grow a habit if you just get started” says Escobar.
Plummer says the best way to avoid discouragement with your exercise resolution is to lean on a support group.
“Hang in there. Talk to people. Don’t go at it alone. If you need a friend to help you move along, bring that friend with you.” says Plummer.
With the right planning and support, you can not only start 2025 on the right foot, but continue that fitness focus throughout the entire year.
