Michigan approves $250 million to develop industrial site near Flint
The Michigan Economic Development Board approved $250 million to develop an industrial megasite near Flint. State lawmakers must approve the funding next.
State officials announced $16 million in capital investments in Eaton, Kent counties that are expected to bring 155 new jobs to the state.
“Congratulations to Matrix Consulting Engineers and HexArmor for their exciting announcements. Let’s keep working together to grow Michigan’s economy, create good-paying jobs, and help more families ‘make it’ in Michigan,” Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said in a news release.
The release said HexArmor will add 100 new jobs to expand the personal protective equipment company’s Grand Rapids headquarters.
Matrix Consulting Engineers in Eaton County’s Delta Township will add 55 new jobs as part of its own expansion, the release said.
Here’s what we know.
Matrix Consulting Engineers is expanding its mechanical and electrical engineering operations through the acquisition and renovation of a facility to meet the company’s growing portfolio, the release said.
The mechanical and electrical engineering company, which has projects on the campuses of Michigan State University, Lansing Community College and Hillsdale College, is set to purchase 35,000-square-foot building that will comprise primarily office and administrative space.
The expansion is expected to result in at least $5.1 million in capital investment and create new jobs. The Michigan Business Development Program is providing a performance-based grant of $385,000 from the Michigan Strategic Fund.
HexArmor’s expansion will add approximately 59,000 square feet to its facility, tripling product holding, processing capacity and provide additional office space.
The expansion is expected to generate at least $11 million in capital investment with help from the Michigan Strategic Fund through a $700,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.
Matrix Consulting Engineers’ newly created jobs will have a starting wage of $25 per hour, plus benefits.
HexArmor did not release an exact pay rate, but said the jobs will have starting wages more than the regional median wage of $23.68 per hour.
Delta Township offered a commercial rehabilitation tax exemption valued at approximately $100,000, according to the news release.
