The Northwest Conference will have four basketball teams (two girls and two boys) battling for 1A state tournament berths. After winning District 1 titles, Lynden Christian’s girls and boys teams will compete at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively, in loser-out, winner-to-state games. Nooksack Valley girls will begin the day with a game at 11 a.m. and Meridian boys will finish it at 5 p.m.
Western Washington men’s basketball team is sitting fourth in the conference standings and will be playing Central Washington, the top team in the conference. The Vikings have won nine of their last 10 games while Central Washington has won eight of its last 10. Both teams come in as the top-scoring teams in the conference, with Western averaging 81.7 points per game and Central averaging 79.7.
If you are interested in reliving a childhood memory of creating forts and outlasting others, check out Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department’s Fort Fight Friday. Teams of two to four individuals must bring sheets, pillows, cardboard and styrofoam to build a fort and try to outlast the other teams in a fight.
Teams will be given 30 minutes to build their fort. After the build, others will judge them and award the most creative fort. After the award ceremony, each team gets dodgeballs and the last fort standing wins.
