A Monday night game at Lambeau Field against a playoff-bound Packers team would be a tough gig for most quarterbacks and it’s an especially difficult one for a rookie quarterback leading an offense that’s been decimated by injuries over the course of the season.
That was the position Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler found himself in this week and things got even harder when center Erik McCoy left the game early in the proceedings. Rattler wound up going 15-of-30 for 153 yards and an interception and a lost fumble while being sacked three times in the 34-0 loss.
Rattler credited the Packers’ performance in his postgame press conference and offered no silver linings for his own outing.
“Just embarrassing,” Rattler said, via Rashad Milligan of NOLA.com. “Embarrassing loss. I put it on myself. I did not play good at all, in my opinion. I just didn’t have any answers, I have to go to make more plays, protect the ball and I’ve just got to be better.”
Rattler was a fifth-round pick this year and he was expected to learn behind Derek Carr, but Carr’s injuries have forced him into the lineup multiple times this season. The results have been about as dismal as most would have predicted and the team’s new coaching staff will be tasked with sifting through them as they decide if there are any things to build on in the years to come.
