Rated by Merit, who brought his record to 4-for-4 with a win Saturday in the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ & Owners’ Association Florida Sire In Reality Stakes, earned the highest Brisnet Speed Rating of the week, 109.
It was the Battalion Runner colt’s third straight win in Gulfstream Park’s stakes series for Florida-sired juveniles. Trained by Michael Yates and ridden by Jesus Rios, Rated by Merit led the 1 1/16-mile race at every call and won by six lengths as the odds-on favorite. Making his first start beyond seven furlongs, he also earned a 93 Beyer Speed Figure.
The highest Beyer of last week’s stakes winners went to Miles Ahead, who earned a 101 for his second consecutive win in the Thanksgiving Classic at Fair Grounds. With Colby Hernandez riding, the 7-year-old gelding by Competitive Edge pulled out the victory late in the six-furlong sprint to win by a head for trainer Paul McGee.
