Next, the country’s leading long-distance dirt horse, earned a Brisnet Speed Rating of 106 for his 10-length victory in the Grade 3 Greenwood Cup on Saturday at Parx. That was the joint highest Brisnet figure of the week. He also earned a 102 Beyer Speed Figure, the highest of the week, for that performance.
Sacrosanct also earned a 106 Brisnet Speed Rating for his 12-length romp in the Bertram F. Bongard on Sunday at Aqueduct. The 2-year-old was coming off of a confident debut maiden win at Saratoga, also against state-bred foes, and led at every call of Sunday’s stakes debut. He earned an 85 Beyer for that outing.
The one other Beyer Speed Figure in triple figures went to Bentornato for his gritty neck victory in the Gallant Bob (G2) on Saturday at Parx. He disputed the pace all the way around with a game Sunny Breeze and proved best in the end. His 103 Brisnet Speed Rating for the effort was the third best of the week, behind only Next and Sacrosanct.
