Week 1 of women’s college basketball brought an exciting mix of top-ranked showdowns, standout freshman performances and surprising upsets.
Catch the season’s first Power 10 rankings unveiled by NCAA.com correspondent Autumn Johnson here:
1. South Carolina – The Gamecocks had a scare against Michigan, narrowly escaping with a win, but handled NC State to improve to 40 straight wins.
2. UConn – Paige Bueckers has made a statement coming into her final season, and it has been fun to watch the addition of transfers Kaitlyn Chen and Sarah Strong turn heads already.
3. Southern California – The win over Ole Miss wasn’t the prettiest, going up against the Rebels defense, but it’s clear this is a scary team once they completely gel.
4. UCLA – The Bruins had to adjust to life without Kiki Rice due to day-to-day injury, but Lauren Betts is truly stepping into her own.
5. Texas – Only one game under its belt, but we’re already seeing the heights this team can reach with Rori Harmon and Madison Booker on the floor together.
6. Notre Dame – Not at full strength yet, but Olivia Miles and Hannah Hidalgo on the court together is a beautiful sight!
7. LSU – Flau’jae Johnson has been commanding attention and letting her presence be felt as the Tiger’s go-to player.
8. Iowa State – Has started strong with its balanced scoring and tough defense, making it a dangerous team in the Big 12.
9. Oklahoma – Raegan Beers has transitioned seamlessly into her new chapter with the Sooners for a strong start.
10. NC State – Fell to South Carolina in the Ally Tipoff, but I believe this is still a top-10 team going up against the No. 1 team in the country.
