The injury list for Tennessee Basketball appears to have added another name. Sophomore wing Cam Carr didn’t practice Tuesday after seemingly injuring his hand in the second half of the 103-68 win over Austin Peay on Sunday at Food City Center.
Carr’s status for this week’s Baha Mar Championship in The Bahamas is unclear.
His left thumb appeared to bend back awkwardly as he was fouled with 7:10 left. He stayed in the game to shoot the free throws that followed, making one of two, then checked out for the rest of the game.
Tennessee (4-0) will play two games in the four-team tournament in The Bahamas, beginning with Virginia on Thursday (9:30 p.m. Eastern Time, CBS Sports Network). No. 13 Baylor or No. 22 St. John’s will be the opponent Friday night.
The Vols were already shorthanded, playing without sophomore center JP Estrella due to a lingering foot injury. Estrella missed practice Tuesday afternoon.
“Day to day is the best way to put it,” Tennessee assistant coach Gregg Polinksy said of Estrella on Tuesday.
Tennessee transfer guard Chaz Lanier was dealing with a migraine Tuesday and worked individually on the side with staff members during the early portions of practice.
Carr is averaging 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per game off the bench so far this season. He had four points and one rebound in nine minutes on Sunday, after scoring a career-high 13 points in 16 minutes against Montana in the 92-57 win on Wednesday.
The Vols entered the season with 11 scholarship players on roster, out of a possible 13, and have not yet played a game with their full scholarship roster available.
Darlinstone Dubar, the transfer wing from Hofstra, has missed the first two weeks of the season due to a personal matter. Freshman point guard Bishop Boswell didn’t play in the season-opening win over Gardner Webb and Estrella was sidelined Sunday against Austin Peay.
Dubar last week returned to practice activity and was dressed for the Montana and Austin Peay games, but did not play in either game.
“We’re on his timeline,” Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said after the Montana game. “Wherever he feels … is strictly up to him. It’s been important to him that he’s been able to stay around his teammates. They love him. He loves them, but it’s all on his timeline.”
Estrella’s foot issue sidelined him off and on during the offseason and into the preseason, with Barnes first noting in September that it was something the Vols were handling with caution.
The 6-foot-11, 241-pounder from Scarborough, Maine, is averaging 4.7 points and 2.7 points rebounds in 10.0 minutes per game.
Estrella averaged 5.0 minutes off the bench while playing in 25 games as a freshman last season. He averaged 1.6 points and 0.8 rebounds per game while shooting 71.4% from the floor.
“We are day to day until we can figure out a plan — a different plan, obviously,” Barnes said on Sunday. “It is just day to day right now.”
