MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – As Thanksgiving draws to a close, the Marquette Downtown Development Authority (DDA) wants to remind you of the importance of shopping small.
This weekend is Small Business Saturday. The event started nationally in 2010 to incentivize shopping in your community.
Mike Bradford, the Marquette DDA business outreach and promotions director, says last year Small Business Saturday had the largest turnout nationwide.
Bradford says around $20 billion was spent on that weekend nationally.
“I think more and more, especially after Covid, people are recognizing how important it is to keep that money local. So shop local, support those local businesses, support the people who own it and the people that work it, because it all stays right here. So I’m really hoping that this year we can see it even more,” Bradford says.
Bradford says in downtown Marquette alone, there are more than 100 businesses with unique offerings to visit.
