Should veteran Boston Celtics combo guard Jrue Holiday be ranked in the NBA’s top 30 players? If you are among the fans of the team who believe that the UCLA alum ought to be, the folks behind a recent top 100 NBA players for the 2024-25 regular season at CBS Sports came pretty close to agreeing with you.
The panel behind the rankings have Holiday at a very respectable No. 32 ranking, even as he enters into the season at age 34. And that is by no means a mistake given what we saw from him on the Celtics’ march to hanging Banner 18 this past playoffs, a run that certainly caught the attention of the analysts ranking Holiday on the cusp of the league’s top 30 for this coming season. “No player has ever been more overqualified for his current role than Jrue Holiday is today,” writes CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn.
“Need Holiday to lock up an opposing guard?” asks Quinn. “No problem, he’s been doing that for a decade. Need him to defend centers? Well, it’s a bit unorthodox, but we’re talking about Jrue Holiday here, so sure.”
“Oh, and if not’s too much trouble, could you average a career-high in rebounds in your age-33 season?,” continues the CBS Sports analyst. “I can’t see why not. This is what happens when the best team in the NBA adds one of the league’s preeminent Swiss army knives.”
“They get to send him on bizarre side quests for seven months, and then, when the Eastern Conference finals arrive, and he needs to bully the undersized Pacers inside for 28 points to steal Game 1, he can do that too. Jrue Holiday can do anything, and that’s why he’s ranked this high on our list.”
