GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – She Has A Name kicked off their annual holiday craft fair this morning. The money raised will go to young girls in Kenya, who are victims of sex trafficking.

She has a name or SHAN provides safe housing, education, mentorship and medical care to victims. The nonprofit currently cares for nine girls in Kenya, empowering them to succeed.

“It gives people who don’t have an opportunity to travel to Kenya, a way to help…. It is so tangible,” said Zach King, Executive Director of SHAN.

One advocate says, it’s a cause that’s near and dear to her heart.

“You are not just buying a gift for someone, you’re also buying a gift for the girls in Kenya… just a small gift may mean meals for a week,” said Linda Turner, a long-time advocate for SHAN.

Vendors at the holiday fair pay a booth fee, and can choose a percentage of their own profits to donate to SHAN. For participating vendors, they say it’s a cause that’s bigger than themselves.

“If you can give back, it’s just giving back even more,” said Deana Guzman.

“These girls just need a nudge…. They just need to be loved like everybody else,” said Susie Cupp.

The nonprofit was founded 10 years ago by a Grand Junction woman visiting Kenya, who wanted to make a difference. Now, fundraising efforts are left to her and the people she trusts most..

“When we know we can help when we know their lives get better, it’s very rewarding to help,” said King,

Team members, like King, work on the ground in Kenya with the girls the organization supports. He says the work this organization does, makes a lasting impact on their lives.

The holiday fair is at the Heart of Grand Junction on North 4th Street. It goes from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and tomorrow.
