SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -Thanksgiving is the calm before the shopping storm.
With Black Friday on the horizon, most families spend Thanksgiving loading up on turkey and pumpkin pie. However, a select few shoppers fill up their carts instead.
The Big Lots in South Point is one of the few stores open on Thanksgiving.
“Yeah, we weren’t sure where we were going to stop, and we were looking and this was one of the few places, so it was nice,” shopper Cameron Harless said.
“We ended up stopping in and getting a couple blankets and they were half off, we saved a ton of money and will probably stop back in,” Harless said.
For some, the calmer setting of a pre-Black Friday shopping day is a much better alternative, voicing their displeasure with the hectic shopping madness starting at dawn.
“It’s overwhelming, there is too many people, and I don’t like it,” shopper Kelly Preston said.
Shoppers, also sharing their heartfelt thanks to those who are sacrificing their time with family to lend their service to customers.
“I really appreciate them and, I feel sorry for them being in here instead of with their families, but I am glad they were here to help us find what we came for, Preston said.
