Former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders will not work out at this week’s NFL combine and will instead focus on interviews with teams in Indianapolis, per multiple reports, including from NFL Network and ESPN.
Sanders is widely considered a top two quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft class with Miami’s Cam Ward. The Athletic’s Dane Brugler has Sanders going sixth to the Las Vegas Raiders in his latest mock draft and rated Sanders the 25th-best prospect — second-best quarterback — on his 2025 big board.
In January, Sanders said he had not decided whether to throw at the combine but was confident he would be a top pick in the draft after meeting with the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants and Cleveland Browns at the East-West Shrine Bowl. All three teams hold the top three picks in the draft.
“I like that I’m able to get in the forefront of everything and they’re able to understand me and ask me whatever questions they want,” Sanders said at the time. “I’m not ducking. I ain’t hiding. I’m right here, live in the flesh, able to answer whatever questions are out there.”
Considering Sanders’ comments last month, plus a rising trend of top prospects forgoing combine drills, his decision is not entirely surprising. Last year, quarterback prospects Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye (selected first, second and third) sat out of combine drills, opting instead to throw for scouts at their respective pro days to familiar receivers.
Sanders led the FBS with a 74 percent completion percentage in 2024 while ranking second in passing touchdowns (37) and fourth in passing yards (4,134).
