Andy Roddick is concerned about how Iga Swiatek will answer the queries that are bound to come her way during the next few weeks at the Australian Open surrounding her short ban for testing positive for substance TMZ.
Swiatek hasn’t played since the news came out aside from at the World Tennis League and albeit is playing United Cup likely won’t answer the hard hitting questions from journalists until at least the Australian Open.
Roddick said that unlike Jannik Sinner, he doesn’t back her to be as cold in answering questions due to her perchance to show emotion compared to her fellow top tennis star who tested positive for the substance Clostebol twice in March. He like Swiatek bore no fault or negligence but served no ban.
“My only concern for Iga Swiatek at scale is how she lands in Australia and how she deals with the questions. Because what is going to happen is that she is going to give the same answer to the same question for the same day for the next three months,” Roddick said on Served.
“Lesser people would become impatient, I certainly would have. She is sensitive, you can see her emote more than Jannik Sinner, who keeps things calm and tight. I am just concerned about a coaching change, this news coming out, how she shows up in Australia.”
Roddick has previously said that it was an unfortunate situation for Swiatek but isn’t one that he can particularly call doping due to what it was for.
“I can’t call it doping. It’s like taking a melatonin for jet lag at 2:30 in the morning in Cincy and having… think about how many things had to go wrong for Iga Swiatek to get popped for melatonin and something that was contaminated. It’s just unfortunate for her [Swiatek] obviously.”
