Emma Raducanu has been told what type of coach to hire by a man who previously trained Serena Williams.
The 22-year-old has struggled for any sort of stability and continuity within her team since she won the 2021 US Open.
She has changed her coach on numerous occasions in addition to sustaining plenty of injuries which has limited her time on court.
Emma Raducanu once again has a coaching dilemma after Nick Cavaday stepped down, but she has been given some sound advice by one of the game’s top coaches about what to do next.
Rick Macci is an iconic coach that helped produce some of tennis’ best players, including arguably the greatest of them all, Serena Williams.
He keeps a close eye on the game and often posts about some of the current players on social media platform X.
Macci recently commented on Raducanu, who is once again looking for a new coach after Cavaday left his role due to health reasons.
As she searches for a replacement, Macci outlined some of the qualities the former World number 10’s new coach should have.
“Emma is one hundred percent a top ten player,” Macci wrote. “Emma is a great ball striker. Mentally, Emma has been there done that.
“Emma can beat anybody, anytime, anywhere including herself if she does not have the right proven voice and inner secret sauce. She is too talented and proven not to be one of best in the world.
“She has more coaches the past four years than titles so maybe she should hire Emma to coach Emma. She needs the right quarterback that understands the mental game and bulletproof confidence.
“She won a Grand Slam. She has been a top 10 player. She does not need a new travel coach/buddy. The right quarterback calling every play can get Raducanu back.”
There are several coaches on the circuit Raducanu could hire to join her team. One is Goran Ivanisevic, who is available after a short period coaching Elena Rybakina came to an abrupt end.
He has a great record coaching Novak Djokovic and after having just spent time on the women’s circuit, he could be an ideal fit for Raducanu.
Though Rennae Stubbs spent most of her time commentating these days, she has coached the likes of Karolina Pliskova, Sam Stosur, and Eugenie Bouchard, and worked with Serena Williams in the final months of her career.
She has plenty of experience coaching on the WTA Tour which is just what Raducanu needs.
Closer to home, Raducanu has worked with Anne Keothavong at the Billie Jean King Cup, where she is the captain of the British team.
Raducanu has played some of her best tennis at this event with Keothavong at the helm, and having her as a coach is something to be considered.
