Less than three weeks before his date in the Breeders’ Cup, two-time
Grade 1 winner Seize the Grey fired a bullet in his workout Sunday at Churchill
Downs.
The 3-year-old Arrogate colt owned by My Racehorse had a
59.4-second breeze, the fastest of 20 timed works covering five furlongs on the
main track. He also had a bullet workout 10 days ago that came in at 59.0
seconds.
Trainer D. Wayne Lukas said he would decide after looking at
the prospective fields whether to enter Seize the Grey in the Classic or the
Dirt Mile on Nov. 2 at Del Mar.
There were 23 graded-stakes winners who showed up on the
U.S. and Canada work tab Sunday.
Seize the Grey (Arrogate), a two-time Grade 1
winner (2024 Pennsylvania Derby, 2024 Preakness), worked five furlongs in 59.4
seconds at Churchill Downs on Sunday morning. It was the fastest of 20 works at
the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going five furlongs at
Churchill Downs. In his last start he won the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) going 1
1/8 miles on the main track at Parx Racing on Sept. 21 for trainer D. Wayne
Lukas.
Arthur’s Ride (Tapit), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Whitney), worked five
furlongs in 1:02.8 at Saratoga. It was the faster of two works at the distance.
His previous work was eight days ago going five furlongs at Saratoga. In his
last start he placed fifth in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) going 1 1/4 miles
on the main track at Saratoga on Sept. 1 for trainer Bill Mott.
Book’em Danno (Bucchero), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Woody Stephens),
worked three furlongs in 37.8 seconds at Monmouth Park. It was the eighth
fastest of nine works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago
going five furlongs at Monmouth Park. In his last start he placed third in the
H. Allen Jerkens Memorial (G1) going seven furlongs on the main track at
Saratoga on Aug. 24 for trainer Derek Ryan.
Cogburn (Not This Time), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Jaipur), worked
four furlongs in 49.6 seconds at Churchill Downs. It was the 27th fastest of 51
works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going four furlongs
at Churchill Downs. In his last start he won the Turf Sprint (G2) going six
furlongs on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 7 for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Gun Pilot (Gun Runner), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Churchill Downs),
