ANN ARBOR – Michigan State basketball took down rival Michigan in Ann Arbor to claim the top spot in the Big Ten Friday night.
The cross-state rivals faced off in a packed Crisler Center Friday night.
Spartans head coach Tom Izzo netted his 356th conference win, taking the No. 1 in the Big Ten from first-year Michigan coach Dusty May in a 75-62 contest that saw Michigan State surge ahead in the second half.
The Spartans held the Wolverines scoreless for the final 4:12 while putting up a 9-point run.
Freshman Jase Richardson scored 21 to lead the Spartans while Holloman had 18, Akins 11 and Fears 10. Vladislav Goldin paced the Wolverines with 21, Burnett had 12 and Wolf 11.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, coach John Bielein and Detroit Lion Aidan Hutchinson were all in attendance.
Michigan State with travel to face Maryland on Wednesday, Feb. 26 before hosting Wisconsin on Sunday, March 2. The Spartans and Wolverines will square off once more in East Lansing to end the regular season on March 9.
