The Ohio state girls high school basketball tournament is underway and Huntington, Piketon, and Adena nabbed opening wins.
Here is the breakdown from Wednesday and Thursday for both the girls tournament and the final week of the regular season for boys teams.
Huntington 33, Zane Trace 26: Brailee Hauswirth led the Huntsmen with 15 points and six rebounds. Leah McCloskey added seven points, and Allie Baker had four points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Carlie Clark led Zane Trace with seven points and Emma Houston added six points and five rebounds.
Piketon 45, Westfall 35: Jaylin Forbes’ 17 points fueled the Redstreaks’ win. She also had eight rebounds. Laila Kelley added 10 points. Adrian Moehl had nine points and seven rebounds for Westfall, and Isabella Patate poured in nine points.
Adena 54, Northwest 21: Marly Halcomb’s 21 points have the Warriors advancing. Corinne Day added 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Jacey Jons had eight points and Kamyrn Sowers had seven.
Belpre 60, Paint Valley 27: Karris Dye had eight points and seven rebounds for the Bearcats.
Alexander 53, Southeastern 43
Logan Elm 58, Waverly 50: Sadie Royster had 18 points, six rebounds and one steal to lead the Tigers on Wednesday. Caris Wisner had 16 points and eight rebounds. Paige O’Bryant had nine points, 13 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and one steal.
Athens 71, Chillicothe 38: Athens has advanced to play Unioto on Saturday.
Westfall 92, Ross Christian Academy 80: Joe Wray had 21 points, seven rebounds and seven assists to lead the Mustangs in a nonconference matchup. Bryan Craig had 19 points and seven rebounds. Haden Rigsby added 18 points and seven rebounds, while Brock Williams had 12 points and Jacob Hicks had eight points.
North Adams 91, Paint Valley 64: Braylon Robertson’s 29-point night wasn’t enough for the Bearcats in a nonconference matchup. Carson Free recorded a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Jase Rinehart added nine points and six assists.
Circleville 63, Paint Valley 42: Braylon Robertson had 20 points for the Bearcats on Wednesday. Carson Free had 10 points and six rebounds.
