The battle of the backup quarterbacks in Miami is somehow going worse than imagined. Boos are raining down on the field as the Dolphins head to the locker room. Tyler Huntley is having a tough time executing this complicated Mike McDaniel offense. The former Baltimore Ravens quarterback hasn’t been asked to do much, with most of his passes coming in the form of screens and short-yardage attempts. He hasn’t managed that well – posting just 35 yards on 7-for-10 passing. One backward swing pass to Tyreek Hill fell short, resulting in a fumble and subsequent Titans recovery. Miami in general has been undisciplined. Duke Riley nearly cost the Dolphins another turnover going for a live punt, but replays showed Tennessee touched the ball barely before Riley muffed it. On the subsequent drive, an unaware Huntley had a shotgun snap whiz by him.

Mason Rudolph, on the other hand, has managed his job adequately. He’s being asked to do a little more than Huntley (understandably so. Rudolph has been there all offseason, while Huntley arrived two weeks ago), and he’s outright out-performing Will Levis, who left injured in the first quarter. The most impressive moment came in the waning seconds of the half, when Rudolph connected with Boyd on a 26-yard pass for the longest play of the night. Rudolph was able to hustle the team to the line of scrimmage and spike the ball with one second left, setting up the Titans’ third field goal.
