Even a marvel like Scottie Scheffler is not immune to the physical challenges a newborn baby presents.
Scheffler, the top-ranked golfer in the world, joined Barstool’s “Pardon My Take” podcast this week and was asked if the birth of his son, Bennett, has given him “dad strength” to drive the ball further.
“No additional yardage. I would say, you know the first couple months of Bennett being alive, like when they’re born, you’re so nervous holding him that you’re gonna like somehow break your child so that you like tense up and hold him.” Scheffler said.
In fact, Scheffler said, his young son caused him some aches and pains.
“It was actually really bad for my back the first couple [of] months. Now that I’ve relaxed a little bit, it’s a little bit easier to hold him, but it was like clockwork. We get home from a tournament and two days in a rib would pop out or something like that holding them, bouncing on, like just soft little golf injuries.”
Scheffler has had a remarkable year, winning seven PGA Tour tournaments along with The Masters and a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Scheffler has reportedly earned over $64 million this year.
The golfer has been so successful that his caddie Ted Scott has earned enough money that he would have qualified as a top-20 earner on the PGA Tour this year.
Scheffler’s wife Meredith gave birth to Bennett in May.
Speaking soon after the birth, Scheffler was asked about how he was feeling.
“I can’t really describe the feeling,’’ Scheffler said at the time. “At home it was a nice time to reflect a little bit on my career so far and where my life has gone. I married my high school sweetheart and I always wanted to play professional golf, and now I’m here. I was sitting there with a newborn in my arms and the green jacket in the closet.
“A pretty insane feeling.’’
