Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan continued his regular Saturday breeze schedule. Unraced since finishing eighth in the Belmont, he has been a regular presence on the work tab since late October. He worked five furlongs in 1:01.0 Saturday at Fair Grounds, third fastest of 36 over the course and distance, and his longest drill since coming back to serious training. According to trainer Kenny McPeek, the Grade 1 Malibu on Dec. 26 at Santa Anita is in play for his return.
Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Full Serrano also worked Saturday, his second drill since that Grade 1 victory at Del Mar. The John Sadler trainee worked five furlongs at Santa Anita in 1:01.2, ninth fastest of 28 over that course and distance. Group 3-placed in Argentina, the 5-year-old horse has come into his best form yet during three starts in the United States for John Sadler in 2024. He won an allowance-optional claiming race at Del Mar in August, followed that up with a second in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic, and then broke through at the top level at the Breeders’ Cup.
