Horseplayers will find a slightly revised wagering menu for this year’s 16-day Santa Anita autumn meet, which opens Friday, Sept. 27.
The Pick 6, which is offered daily and covers the final six races, is now a $2 minimum wager. Previously, the Pick Six was a $1 base wager. Beginning with its inception in the early 1980s, the Pick 6 for decades had been a $2 minimum wager at Santa Anita and other California tracks. In recent years the base cost of the Pick Six was lowered to different price points.
The Pick Six will continue to pay out 70 percent of each day’s pool to tickets that have all six winners with the remaining 30 percent going to consolation payouts. If there are no tickets with six winners, 70 percent of the pool will carry over to the next race day, with the remainder paid out in consolations.
New to the Santa Anita wagering menu this year is a $5 minimum late daily double and a $3 late Pick 3, both featuring a 15 percent takeout. The late daily double covers the last two races each race day. All other daily double’s offered on each day’s card will continue to be $2 minimums. The new $3 late Pick 3 covers the final three races of the day.
Also for the first time at a Santa Anita autumn meet, Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park will combine forces to offer a $1 coast-to-coast Pick 5 on Saturdays and Sundays. The coast-to-coast Pick 5 also features a 15 percent takeout rate.
One other change this year is the $1 Super Hi 5 will be offered only on the final race of the day. The Super Hi 5 requires players to pick the first five finishers in a race in exact order. If there are no perfect tickets with five winners, 100 percent of the pool will carry over to the following day’s Super Hi 5.
Santa Anita will continue to offer a 50-cent Early Pick 5 with 14 percent takeout, as well as the 50-cent late Pick 5, $1 exactas, $2 rolling daily doubles, an early 50-cent Pick 4, as well as 10-cent superfectas on all races with a minimum of six runners. Also returning is the $3 all-turf Pick 3, which covers the final three turf races on each day’s card.
