The Grade 3, $100,000 La Cañada Stakes, a route race for
older fillies and mares, has been moved from Saturday to next Sunday as part of
Santa Anita’s rescheduling because of nearby wildfires.
“In our condition book, we don’t have any stakes races
(next) Sunday, so we’re going to move the La Cañada,” Santa Anita stakes
coordinator Jimmy Kasparoff said. “The La Cañada is going to be run on Sunday,
and the Las Ciénegas (G3) is going to be run on Sunday.”

The Las Ciénegas originally was scheduled for this weekend,
but it was postponed when Santa Anita management decided it was more prudent to
wait for conditions to improve around fire-ravaged Los Angeles County.
The California Cup day stakes that originally would have
been run Saturday were pushed back a week and will be redrawn Sunday, when
entries will be taken again. Kasparoff said he did not expect any changes to
those fields. He also expected the Las Ciénegas to have the same entrants when
it is redrawn Monday, the day entries also will be taken for the La Cañada.
Santa Anita canceled racing Friday, Saturday and Sunday and
put limits on training at various times this week because of smoky air. Now 27%
contained, the Eaton fire got within six miles of the track property Tuesday
before wind died down Wednesday, removing the fire threat.
Santa Ana wind that helped fuel the fires were expected to
accelerate Sunday and Monday, raising the danger warnings again across the Los
Angeles area. According to CNN, at least 16 people have been killed and more
than 105,000 residents still were affected Sunday by evacuation orders.
