FRISCO, Texas — Sam Williams got some news from the NFL’s front office on Monday afternoon that ends a months-long investigation by commissioner Roger Goodell, one day after the Dallas Cowboys suffered their fourth consecutive loss against the San Francisco 49ers in a matchup that Williams did not participate in — currently rehabilitating a torn ACL on injured reserve.
Williams has been suspended for three games, without pay, for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, the league announced.
The punishment stems from a reckless driving charge, and additional charges, levied against Williams in 2023 by local police, and went into effect ahead of Week 8, extending through the Week 10 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite Williams being on injured reserve, the suspension applies by way of the stripping away of his pay for three weeks, as players on IR remain compensated while they recover from injury; and that means he will not be forced to miss the aforementioned three contests when he returns in 2025.
The former second-round pick went down early in training camp with the torn ACL, ending his 2024 season before it could ever truly begin.
He will head into his fourth year with the club with a lot on the line.
