New Delhi: Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Qatar’s Emir, is all set to visit India on February 17-18. This will be Sheikh Tamim’s first visit to India in nearly a decade. During the visit, key discussions between the two nations will likely take place on energy cooperation and West Asian politics. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the Emir is coming to India with a high-level delegation at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This delegation will include ministers and business leaders. The objective of this visit is to strengthen India-Qatar relations in trade, investment, and technology. It is important to note that Qatar is India’s largest supplier of LNG. The Al-Thani family is among the wealthiest families in the world.
So far, 11 members of the Al-Thani family have held this position. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani became the Emir in 2013 after his elder brother, Sheikh Jassim, renounced his claim to the throne.
According to media reports, the Al-Thani family has an estimated net worth of around $335 billion, making it one of the top 10 richest families in the world. Sheikh Tamim resides in the Doha Royal Palace, which is valued at approximately USD 1 billion. His palace features over 100 rooms, a grand ballroom, and parking space for around 500 cars. Some parts of the palace are adorned with gold plating.
He owns a yacht worth approximately Rs 3.3 billion (about $40 million). The 124-meter-long yacht includes a helipad and has accommodations for 35 guests and 90 crew members.
Al-Thani family also owns Qatar Amiri Airlines. Established in 1977, this airline was created exclusively for the royal family. It currently operates 14 aircraft, including three Boeing 747s.
Sheikh Tamim also possesses a fleet of luxury cars, which includes Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Rolls-Royce. Qatar is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, with a per capita income of $114,648. In terms of per capita income, Qatar ranks fifth globally.
