First-round competition in Rotterdam continues on Tuesday, when Jakub Mensik and Alexander Bublik go head-to-head. A jam-packed order of play at this ATP 500 event also includes Andrey Rublev and Zhizhen Zhang.
Alexander Bublik vs. Jakub Mensik
Mensik and Bublik will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers when they clash in round one of the ABN AMRO Open on Tuesday. Their only previous meeting came last summer at Wimbledon, where Bublik came back from two sets down to prevail 4-6, 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.
Seven more months of experience and a move to indoor hard courts should help Mensik. The 19-year-old Czech is up to No. 47 in the world and has played well on this surface in the early stages of his career. Perhaps the best news for Mensik heading into this matchup is that Bublik is in dire form. The 49th-ranked Kazakh is 1-3 so far this year and 3-13 in his last 16 matches dating back to Wimbledon. All signs point to Mensik taking care of business in routine fashion.
Pick: Mensik in 2
(4) Andrey Rublev vs. Zhizhen Zhang
Rublev advanced a couple of rounds last week in Montpellier, but a semifinal loss to Aleksandar Kovacevic proved that the Russian is still struggling. An Australian Open setback against Joao Fonseca extended his losing streak to five matches before Rublev got off the schneid with wins over Chris Eubanks and Nikoloz Basilashvili in Montpellier–the latter via retirement.

Up first for the world No. 10 in Rotterdam is Zhang, who trails the head-to-head series 3-0. Rublev rolled 6-3, 6-2 on the indoor hard courts of Astana in 2022 and then won a pair of 2024 contests–in three sets in Dubai and in straights at the Cincinnati Masters. Zhang has not defeated anyone ranked in the top 100 since Hangzhou last September and he is better on slower surfaces, so another loss to Rublev for the Chinese veteran is likely incoming.
