Indian cricket fans and the team management will be delighted to hear the news as Rohit Sharma is now reportedly a father to a baby boy.
According to a report by the Hindustan Times (HT), Ritijka Sajdeh, Rohit’s wife, gave birth to a baby boy on Friday. The Indian skipper has yet to announce the news officially.
The news will come as a massive positive sign as this could mean that the Indian captain and opening batter will be ready to rejoin the side ahead of the opening Test against Australia in Perth.
The Indian Test team is currently in Australia for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a five-match Test series which could decide the fate of the Indian side in the ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC).
India could be handed a massive boost if they have their skipper back in the side for the entire five-match affair. The senior batter will be expected to play a key role at the top of the order against their rivals.
Rohit has been reportedly training in Mumbai and had mentioned earlier that he may not be available for the opening Test against Australia. But the Indian team could see this as a big positive coming into the series Down Under.
As captain, the Indian side has come under a lot of pressure due to the disappointing series whitewash on home soil against New Zealand earlier. Rohit’s form also was under the scanner after he was unable to put up a significant score against the Kiwis.
But with this as motivation, the Indian skipper could find his form again to help his side come through the massive challenge against the Aussies. Rohit along with the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as the senior members of the side will look to return to their best and possibly retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for a third consecutive tour.
