Rochester, N.Y.— A new challenge in Rochester made fitness fun in an effort to highlight the important link between physical and mental health well-being.
MVP Health Care teamed up with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Thursday for the inaugural Fitness Court Challenge.
People were split into groups at the Cobbs Hill Park Fitness Court to enjoy seven fitness stations in the active, outdoor setting.
For each person registered, MVP made a $5 donation up to $1,000 to NAMI NYS, which provides support for families dealing with mental illness.
“It’s going to a good cause,” said Margaret Leonardo, leader of MVP Health’s promotion team. “We just want to get people out here living healthier lives [and come] out to have a good time and create a healthier community.”
As participants enjoyed raffles and prizes, they also learned about how fitness can reduce anxiety and alleviate depression.
