Created by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel in 2004, Roblox was first released in 2006, amassing over 164 million monthly active users as of 2020. The platform’s Developer Exchange program allows creators to exchange their Robux (the title’s in-game currency) for real-world currency, and the platform’s microtransactions have been a point of contention in the past. To give an idea of how dedicated the game’s player base is, a Roblox fan previously spent over 800,000 Robux just to change their username, proving the community takes the live-service game very seriously.

Posted on Reddit by SnooHabits9825, a series of images were shared on the Roblox subreddit, featuring the user’s 90s-styled mall called, “La Gran Plaza,” inspired by a Mexican shopping complex. This will be the user’s third project update on Reddit, which featured the addition of the “Dan’s Coffee” café built from the player’s old assets. The creator informed the community that the game would be opened once they finished building the hallways. The scale of the project is impressive, similar to another Roblox player who built a luxury yacht in the game, and other users were impressed to discover that this creation was built in Roblox.

One Roblox player once spent 13 months crafting a game, whereas the mall creator has only been sharing their work for the past month on Reddit. However, the community was amazed to see additions such as Cinepolis, a Mexcian-based international movie theater chain, included in the storefronts. The creator encouraged interested players to message them directly for a chance to explore this fantastic mall themselves, and most were convinced the screenshots were photos thanks to the level of detail and the applied grain effect.

Roblox recently added re-designed controls back in October 2024, which reformatted in-experience controls to give players better access to voice and text chat. To make the community a more friendly and safer place, the Hamburger menu was also added, making it easier to access important features, such as reporting abuse, self-view, the leaderboard, and emotes. Furthermore, console and VR players were promised an update for redesigned controls as well, to channel a more consistent experience while navigating the online platform.
