Former SNL star Rob Schneider, one of the most controversial comedians in modern times, has just taken another step towards the road to cancelation. The actor has gone on X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his opinion with a very controversial repost: While he wasn’t literal about it, he reposted a 2021 video where NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo promoted vaccinations. Considering his known distaste for child vaccinations, Schneider was incendiary when reposting Mutombo’s original pro-vaccination post in the aftermath of his passing. Mutombo died yesterday due to complications with brain cancer.
The star of critically panned comedies like Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and Grown Ups, and one of Adam Sandler’s best friends, posted the following: “Rest in Peace… I’m sure this is just (another) coincidence. But I took a pass on the Jab and I’m gonna not let anyone I know (and who will Listen) get it either!“
Unsurprisingly, Schneider received a wave of negative backlash after the post (via Entertainment Weekly). User @secretsandlaws even made sure to mention Sandler when posting: “@AdamSandler, I really hope you’ll reconsider your friendship with someone who would say something so despicable. You know Dikembe; this is disgusting.” Others like @ArtCandee called Schneider “vile” and remarked that Mutombo’s passing was due to the brain cancer he was fighting. Most of the X replies regarded Schneider’s apparent denial of cancer being the cause of death. Meanwhile, the sarcasm in his post points to his suspicions about coronavirus vaccinations causing the death of the former NBA star.
Earlier this year, Schneider faced another controversy when his own daughter, musician Elle King, opened up about her upbringing with Schneider playing an absent father figure. At the time, she said she didn’t want him to take part in her life. Schneider replied with the following statement:
“Well I just want to tell my daughter, Elle, I love you and I wish I was the father in my 20s that you needed. Clearly I wasn’t. I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings. I love you completely and I love you entirely.”
This isn’t nearly the first time Rob Schneider has been involved in a controversy regarding his conservative and extremist ways. The former SNL actor has been in the public eye for many years after he expressed his contempt for child vaccination, which coincided with the shift in his political stance. Ever since, a lot has happened, and this year, he claimed he was rooting for Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. It’s a no-brainer where he stands in terms of politics.
A couple of months ago, Schneider was also the subject of a social media controversy when he tweeted about the 2024 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, expressing his rejection of the controversial act that resembled The Last Supper. Schneider went far in his remarks, saying the event openly celebrated Satan.
Yes, he wasn’t the only one who criticized the event. But Schneider seems to take his position a bit too far sometimes. While freedom of speech calls for everyone to have an opinion (while contemplating celebrity status, influencing, and the responsibility of speaking your mind on social media), the X post about Mutombo was highly inappropriate. He will not be taking his words back, but this sordid kind of speculation will surely cost him a few followers.
