ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – By now, the resolutions many made at the beginning of the year might feel out of reach. The second Friday in January is known as Quitters Day.
However, one city is encouraging people to stick to their fitness goals with a community program.
Roanoke Parks and Recreation launched its 100 Miler Challenge Monday with a mile walk.
More than 50 people walked from Fishburn Mansion down to the greenway as a way to stay active during these colder months.
“If it were easier everyone would be doing it, right? So in the spring it is very easy to get up and get moving and enjoy time outside and it is not that way in the winter,” Community Recreation Supervisor Jen Prince said. “So I think getting together a community of people to support each other, to push themselves to get out there even when it is not the most comfortable so we are exercising year round and not just thinking about the warm months.”
The goal of this challenge is to walk, run, hike, or bike one mile each day for 100 days.
However, if that isn’t the right fit for you, the challenge encourages you to substitute the mile with 30 minutes of physical activity like yoga, golfing, or something else you love.
