At 37 years of age, Novak Djokovic is one of the elder statesmen on the ATP Tour. However, French veteran Richard Gasquet thinks the Serbian is capable of winning Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic failed to win a Major title in 2024, falling to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final. Although the former World No.1 captured the elusive Olympic gold medal, he was unable to win a single ATP title on tour this season. Nonetheless, Gasquet believes Djokovic has it in him to win a few more Grand Slam titles.
Although Djokovic has a record 24 Grand Slam singles titles to his name, the Serbian still hungers for more. He announced he would be shifting his focus to Majors in 2025, with his first opportunity arising at the 2025 Australian Open.
In an appearance on the Super Moscato Show on RMC, Gasquet was full of praise for the former World No.1. The Frenchman was of the opinion that it would be an incredible achievement if Djokovic were to win a Slam at the age of 37.
“It’s possible that he’ll still win Grand Slams,” said Gasquet. “I don’t know if it’s ever happened, at 37, to be so strong in a sport, to be number 2 or 3 in the world, to say to yourself that he can still win Grand Slams. It’s unique, it’s incredible.”
Djokovic recently announced his collaboration with long-time rival and three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray. The former British No.1 will be joining the Serbian’s coaching team, in an attempt to guide Djokovic to another Grand Slam title.
