Arkansas’ office and retail scene is booming with major developments like Walmart’s futuristic HQ, new mixed-use spaces, and flagship stores like Goodwill’s.
High Street Development, the team behind the Johnson Square town center project, announced in October 2024 plans for the next phase of the mixed-use development: The Warehouse District, a 6-acre, seven-building project that’s expected to be completed by spring 2026. The plan calls for retail, office and multifamily spaces.
Goodwill Industries of Arkansas will open its flagship retail store and donation center in West Little Rock in late 2025 or early 2026. The 20,000-SF retail development will be located in the Chenal Valley area, across the street from Costco. Officials say it was designed to integrate with other nearby real estate. The new facility is Goodwill’s 36th in Arkansas but will be the nonprofit’s first new build.
A new Film Alley location will open this year at Little Rock’s Breckenridge Village shopping center, marking a new era for the midtown staple. Renovations at the 11.5-acre, 125,000-SF retail complex began in 2022; those changes were slowed by the March 2023 EF-3 tornado that hit the city. Two years later, the center is a hub for local restaurants like The Root Cafe’s second location and longtime tenant Eat My Catfish. The complex’s owners have said they plan to add office space at the shopping center.
In November, the Searcy Planning Commission confirmed Target’s plans to build a new store in the city of 24,000. The company purchased land in January, selecting a 12-acre, undeveloped site on the eastern side of town, just north of I-57 and adjacent to the new Academy Sports + Outdoors built in Searcy in 2024. The property sold for $2.7 million from seller Taylor Farms LLC of Searcy. The city saw a boom of retail growth in 2024, with five new, national stores opened. The new Target is expected to open in 2026.
