All signs point to the potential reunion of Kevin Durant and the Golden State Warriors seem to be over. While rumblings of the Warriors attempting to acquire the former two-time NBA Finals MVP have been heating up around the 2025 edition of the NBA trade deadline, Durant has reportedly expressed “no desire” to return to the Bay Area.
Following Shams Charania of ESPN’s report of Durant not wanting to return to Golden State, the Warriors are reportedly moving on. According to Anthony Slater and Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Warriors are “moving on” from their pursuit of Durant.

Durant spent three seasons with the Warriors after leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016. Durant went on to win back-to-back titles and was named NBA Finals Most Valuable Player twice. Over three seasons in the Bay Area, Durant averaged 25.8 points on 52.6% shooting from the field and 38.4% shooting from the field with 7.1 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game.
With Durant potentially off the board, the Warriors could continue their pursuit of Jimmy Butler. The Warriors have been connected to Butler throughout his trade saga. Despite multiple rumors connecting Butler and Golden State, the Heat forward has reportedly indicated he’s unwilling to sign an extension with the Warriors.
The trade deadline is set for 12 p.m. PT on Thursday.
