Penn State men’s basketball is set to meet Indiana at The Palestra as part of its Big Ten slate, according to Jon Rothstein.
The Sunday, January 5, matchup will mark the third time in as many years that the Nittany Lions have played in Philadelphia’s college basketball cathedral. Penn State has a 25-37 all-time record at the Palestra but is coming off an exciting win against Michigan last season.
According to Rothstein, this matchup will count as one of the Nittany Lions’ 10 allotted Big Ten home games. In years past, the Palestra game has yielded a significant home-court advantage for Penn State thanks to the building’s close quarters and tall ceiling.
This will mark Mike Rhoades’ squad’s second visit to the City of Brotherly Love during the 2024-25 season, as a December matchup with Drexel at the Wells Fargo Center is already on the books. Penn State will also host Penn, whose home gym is the Palestra, on December 29 in Happy Valley.
The Palestra opened in 1927 and has been instrumental to the success of college hoops, largely thanks to its role in hosting Philadelphia Big 5 matchups. The building looks very similar to Penn State’s Rec Hall as they were both designed by architect Charles Z. Klauder.
