Fluffy Socks, a multiple graded-stakes winner and the 5-1 third choice on the morning line for Saturday’s Grade 2 Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Gulfstream Park, has been retired due to injury.

Chad Brown told Sol Kumin of owner-breeder Head of Plains Partners that the 7-year-old mare was off in her left hind leg, according to a report from David Grening from Daily Racing Form. A faint line showed up on an x-ray, which could lead to a condylar fracture if not allowed to heal.

The daughter of Slumber retires with a 30: 6-9-5 record and $1,379,565 in earnings. That includes four graded-stakes victories between the ages of 2 and 6 at four different tracks: the 2022 Jimmy Durante (G3) at Del Mar, the 2021 Sands Point (G2) at Belmont, the 2023 Distaff Turf Mile (G2) at Churchill Downs and the 2024 Gallorette (G3) at Pimlico.

Though she never won at the Grade 1 level, she placed at the top level four times, most recently with a third in the 2024 First Lady (G1) in October. In her final start she finished eighth in the Goldikova (G2) at Gulfstream, four lengths behind Pegasus World Cup Filly and Mare Turf morning-line favorite Raqiya.
