Dan Lanning was pretty fortunate this offseason to only have one assistant coach leave the program. With Junior Adams taking the same job with the Dallas Cowboys in February, Lanning had an offensive role to fill. Now we assume offensive because he had some flexibility with this hire.
Late Saturday night however it was reported Lanning made his hire.
Oregon will reportedly hire Syracuse wide receiver coach Ross Douglas to fill the same role in Eugene. Douglas is one of the more promising young coaches in the college ranks. Syracuse had one of the most prolific passing attacks in college football in 2024 with him leading the wide receivers.
At only 30 years old, Douglas has been on a very strong upward trajectory in the coaching ranks. He started back in 2018 landing a job with Rutgers as a GA. After his two years there he landed with the Patriots as a defensive quality control coach. In high school, Douglas played cornerback despite being hired to coach wide receivers at Oregon. He quickly moved to assistant wide receivers coach for 1 season then wide receivers coach under Bill Belichick with the Patriots. Last year he accepted a position with Syracuse in that same role.
After graduating from high school in Ohio he signed to play with Michigan. He later transferred to Rutgers to finish his college career. He went undrafted by the NFL. In his college playing days he played multiple positions including receiver, running back, corner and safety.
