The Fresno State men’s basketball team is having a rough season on the court and things just got worse for the Bulldogs’ program.
The Fresno Bee reported that multiple players were held out of Saturday’s game against Air Force for “eligibility” reasons that could be tied to an investigation into alleged betting activity.
Jalen Weaver and Zaon Collins both missed Saturday’s game. The Fresno Bee reported that Mykell Robinson is also involved, and his name has been removed from Fresno State’s active roster.
“Fresno State men’s basketball student-athletes Jalen Weaver and Zaon Collins are being withheld from competition as the university reviews an eligibility matter,” the school said in a statement to the The Fresno Bee.
Fresno State dropped to 5-23 and 1-15 in the Mountain West after Saturday’s 72-69 overtime loss at Air Force. That defeat marked the 10th straight loss for the Bulldogs under first-year coach Vance Walberg. Fresno State is 14-12 against the spread overall, and 3-5 versus the number in its last eight games.
There has been no indication of particular games being investigated as of Sunday. However, Fresno State is now the fourth college basketball program to be investigated for betting this season.
ESPN’s David Purdum previously reported that Eastern Michigan, North Carolina A&T and Mississippi Valley State were involved in a potential gambling ring. Those schools are still under investigation.
