North American exports Preservationist and Reincarnate will be enhancing the South Korean stallion pool starting this year.
Preservationist, who entered stud in 2020 at Airdrie Stud, arrived in South Korea Dec. 27, while new stallion Reincarnate, a 5-year-old son of Good Magic , arrived Jan. 5, according to Korea Racing Authority records.
A 12-year-old grade 1-winning son of Arch, Preservationist has sired 44 winners so far, led by 2024 Peter Pan Stakes (G3) winner Antiquarian . His other top performers include grade 2-placed stakes winner In a Jam , multiple stakes winner Diakonissa , and black-type winner Band of Gold . Preservationist’s runners have earned more than $3.2 million, averaging $42,454 per runner.
Preservationist raced from 3 to 6 and became a millionaire after winning the 2019 Woodward Stakes (G1) and Suburban Stakes (G2) for Centennial Farms. He is out of the Dixieland Band winner Flying Dixie, who is a half sister to grade 1-placed, multiple grade 2 winner Hungry Island (More Than Ready) and grade 3 winner Soaring Empire (Empire Maker). Flying Dixie also is a half sister to stakes-placed Tokyo Time, the dam of grade 1 winner Olympiad .
Reincarnate is a multiple grade 1-placed, grade 3 winner who compiled a 3-5-4 record from 16 starts while racing from 2 to 4. He retired with $727,900 in earnings.
Bred by Woods Edge Farm, Reincarnate sold for $775,000 to bloodstock agent Donato Lanni on behalf of SF Bloodstock, Starlight Racing, and Madaket Stables during the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. He is out of the stakes winner Allanah (Scat Daddy), who has also produced grade 2 winner J B Strikes Back (Goldencents ).
Reincarnate was a winner at 2, and in his first start at 3 won the 2023 Sham Stakes (G3) at Santa Anita Park for trainer Bob Baffert. Then with trainer Tim Yakteen, he ran third in the Rebel Stakes (G2) and Arkansas Derby (G1). Reincarnate went unplaced in the Kentucky Derby (G1) but followed that effort with a 2 1/2-length win in the Los Alamitos Derby. He went on to finish third in the Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) and Santa Anita Handicap (G1) and was runner-up in the Hollywood Gold Cup Stakes (G2) and Cougar II Stakes (G3).
Good Magic, who stands at Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa Farm, finished 2024 as the second-leading third-crop sire by progeny earnings behind Ashford Stud’s Justify , and is the co-leading sire for the year by number of grade 1 winners with three. His top performers for last year include Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Dornoch , Pacific Classic Stakes winner Mixto , and Arkansas Derby winner Muth .
American-bred sires occupied the top five places on Korea’s leading sires list of 2024, topped by Hansen (Tapit), who won the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) and was named that year’s champion 2-year-old colt. Following Hansen on the leading sires list are To Honor and Serve, Cowboy Cal, Purge, and Musket Man.
