Reggie Miller, the Indiana Pacers NBA veteran, is still following the bouncing ball.
The basketball star will after the end of this NBA season leave Warner Bros. Discovery, where he has worked as an NBA analyst for years, to join NBC Sports, which gains a new package of NBA game rights this fall. When Miller joins NBC Sports in October, he is expected to call one or more games per week during the regular season and playoffs.
“Some of my most memorable moments have been on NBC and I’m looking forward to creating more,” said Miller, in a statement. Many of his best moments on the court were televised by NBC when it last had NBA rights between 1990 and 2002. NBCUniversal’s new NBA rights call for its to show games on both NBC and Peacock, with the streaming service showing a national game each Monday night, while NBC launches new TV franchises on Sundays and Tuesdays.
NBC in January named Mike Tirico to lead coverage for many of its NBA games, and nnamed Jamal Crawford, a 20-season basketball veteran, as a game analyst. Frank DiGraci, a veteran of producing Nets games for YES, has been named coordinating producer of NBA telecasts.
NBCUniversal is believed to be spending as much as an estimated $2.4 billion to $2.5 billion a year under terms of an 11-year deal that gives it the chance to air 100 regular-season games; the NBA All-Star Game; and a passel of exclusive first-round playoff games. WNBA games will also be a part of the package. In a sign of how much NBC wanted this sports deal, the company is paying more for NBA games than it is for its current NFL package, according to estimates from the independent analysis firm MoffettNathanson.
Miller played all 18 seasons of his professional career with the Indiana Pacers and is the team’s all-time leader in points scored, assists, and steals. He was a five-time NBA All-Star, and led Indiana to the NBA Finals in 2000.
“Having provided so many memorable moments on NBC during his playing days, it’s only fitting that Reggie will join our team as the NBA returns to NBC and debuts on Peacock,” said Sam Flood, executive producer, NBC Sports. “As basketball fans know, not only was Reggie one of the game’s greatest shooters and clutch performers, but he was also one of its most entertaining players with a unique combination of skill and swagger. He has successfully brought those traits to his broadcasting career and consistently provides viewers with in-depth analysis while pulling no punches.”
