The Duke Blue Devils are one of the most remarkable programs in college basketball this season. The roster is packed with talent, featuring players like Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Tyrese Proctor, Caleb Foster, Isaiah Evans, and many others. In short, this team is stacked.
The Blue Devils have won 18 of their last 19 games, making them the hottest team in the country. However, a loss to Clemson just over a week ago snapped their 16-game winning streak. At the time, Duke was ranked No. 2, but the defeat dropped them to No. 3. On Monday, the Blue Devils traveled to Virginia for an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.
At halftime, Duke was leading comfortably, 43-29. The future first overall pick in the draft, Cooper Flagg, had a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks. While Flagg’s stellar performance was once again a highlight, the most intriguing story of the game came from off the court. With just over five minutes remaining in the first half, referee Roger Ayers stopped play to approach the scorer’s table.
Ayers was seen talking to an employee and pointing toward the crowd. The camera then cut to an older gentleman making his way up the bleachers, heading for the exit. It was reported that the man had descended from his seat to yell at the referee, visibly upset with how the game was being officiated. The commentators couldn’t help but joke about the unusual ejection.
“Well, I mean, again, if you’re going to get tossed, make sure you earn it,” one of the commentators said on air.
The crowd loved it as the cameras captured the man receiving high-fives on his way out of the arena. This fan will forever be remembered as a legend, in one of the most bizarre ways imaginable.
