GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – The Grand Island Senior High football program will be transitioning to new leadership for the 2025-26 season, according to a release from the school.
Former head coach Creighton Reed will be leaving his position after one season with the Islanders where the team went 2-7. Reed replaced longtime coach Jeff Tomlin, who retired from being a head coach for high school football and is currently serving as the defensive line coach at Hastings College.
Reed provided Local4 with a statement following his departure.
Thank You Grand Island
While I am disappointed with today’s decision, I want everyone to know that the Grand Island Senior High football program, at all times, has followed the highest of moral and ethical standards during my five months as head football coach. To avoid speculation, a conflict of vision for the future of the program was at issue. There are incredible young men in this program and it was the honor of a lifetime to coach you. I love you boys. We are healthy and blessed and know that God has a path and a plan for our family.

With Reed’s departure, Jeff McQuinn will serve as the interim football coach for the Islanders. McQuinn has been at GISH and with the football program for 10 years as an assistant coach. He also serves as an Athletic Performance and Lifetime Fitness teacher at Grand Island Senior High.
“We’re grateful for coach Reed and his work with our athletes,” Grand Island Activities Director Chris Ladwig said. “We appreciate coach McQuinn’s willingness to step into a larger role while Islander football is in transition. Our commitment remains the same — providing the best extracurricular opportunities and life-lessons we can for our Islander student athletes.”
The GISH Activities Department is working on long term plans for the football program.
