England’s fast bowler Reece Topley was fined 15% of his match fee for violating the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of Conduct during the first T20 international match against the West Indies in Barbados.
Topley breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses “abuse of equipment or apparel, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
The incident occurred while England was fielding. Topley, visibly upset, walked towards the pavilion staircase and aggressively hit a chair against the handrail.
This act earned Topley one demerit point, his first within a 24-month period.
Match officials Leslie Reifer and Zahid Bassarath (on-field umpires), Gregory Brathwaite (third umpire) and Deighton Butler (fourth umpire) charged Topley, and he accepted the charges. Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Referees imposed the penalty.
